CAFFE` LATTE`TOP 2000 TRACKS {EXPANDED EDITION}

#1827 DEAR JESSIE Madonna
Written and produced by Madonna and Patrick Leonard, "Dear Jessie" was 1 of the singles lifted off the former's 1989 album 'Like A Prayer'. Its jovial carousel-like sound helped propel the track to #5 on the British chart.

#1828 RAIN Mika
Mika co-wrote "Rain" with Jodi Marr. It was included on his 2nd album 'The Boy Who Knew Too Much'. That disc was issued in 2009. Underneath its bouncy feel. lies a sad song that is so catchy, it stays in your head for hours. It was a Top 20 hit in Europe and Israel.

The list is a ranking made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. This expanded section now includes songs from the last few years. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
Along with climbing among the remaining Top 100 each day, 2 new songs ranked in positions 1501-2000 will also be added daily.

#51 COME DOWN IN TIME
ELTON JOHN
(1970)
Writers: Bernie Taupin & Elton John
After breaking through with the 'Elton John' album, the singer after whom the LP was named worked on 'Tumbleweed Connection'. Most of John's collaborator Bernie Taupin's lyrics dealt with an Americana feel. In a way, "Come Down In Time" sets itself apart from the other tracks that wound up on 'Tumbleweed Connection'. That album saw the light of day in 1970.
Taupin had already created some outstanding lyrics for John to provide music to, but "Come Down..." raised the bar. Its understated words emphasize the emotion-packed scenario within the song. It deals with a man who has been asked to meet the object of his affection. He ventures towards the proposed rendezvous but, as more time passes, it is becoming all the more unlikely that she will show up.
John's vocal approach suits the protagonist's predicament. Taupin seems to have carefully selected groups of words that poetically paint a scene, such as "a cluster of night jars" and "a mantle of bright light shone down from a room". This tale of unrequited love is enhanced by the addition of Skalia Kanga on the harp and Karl Jenkins on the oboe. All of these ingredients come together to create an engaging ballad.
This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.

#1826 TOKYO JOE Bryan Ferry

#52 CAN YOU FEEL IT
JEAN-ROCH
(2003)
Writers: Jean-Roch Pedri; S DO ; FB Cool & Bill Conti
Jean-Roch Pedri was born in Toulon, France in 1966. Growing up, his ambition was to play football (soccer). His family obligations with its restaurant business prevented the youngster from fulfilling his dream. Years later, he scored his breakthrough with "Can You Feel It", the official French anthem for Euro 2004, held that year in Portugal.
The DJ/ producer works under the shortened name of Jean-Roch. "Can You Feel It" was built around a Bill Conti instrumental entitled "The Last Bell" from the 1976 'Rocky'  movie's soundtrack album. Jean-Roch teamed up with fellow French  R&B / House producer - songwriters Denis Clavaud (who works under the name S DO) and Fabien Benhamou (aka FB Cool) to write the upbeat track. The latter also contributed keyboards and co-produced "Can You Feel it" with Jean-Roch. Geraldine Delacroix sang the lead vocal.
"Can You Feel It" reached #5 on the French chart and peaked at #12 in Belgium. Along with his musical pursuits, Jean-Roch has since opened nightclubs in Paris and other European locations. He returned his focus to music in 2010, with the Top 10 hit single "My Love Is Over" and his 1st solo album 'Music Saved My Life'. He has collaborated with Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Pitbull and Kat DeLuna.

#53 PART TIME LOVER
STEVIE WONDER
(1985)
Writer: Stevie Wonder
1985 saw the release of 'In Square Circle'. That album contained the worldwide smash "Part Time Lover". The Motown genius wrote, arranged and produced the funky track. Wonder also contributed drums and synthesizers to the hit. The lead vocal is sung by Wonder and Luther Vandross. Philip Bailey (of the group Earth, Wind and Fire) and Syreeta Wright (Stevie's ex-wife) were among the background vocalists.
According to Wonder, the song's melody was inspired by 2 hit singles by Motown's premier girl group, The Supremes. The 2 songs he was referring to are "You Can't Hurry Love" and "My World Is Empty Without You"; both Top 5 songs in 1965-66.
Released as a single, "Part Time Lover" reached #1 Pop, R&B and Adult Contemporary in the USA. It also topped the charts in Canada, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Ireland and New Zealand. The disc peaked at #3 in Britain, France, Australia and Sweden.

#54 LAST DANCE
DONNA SUMMER
(1978)
Writer: Paul Jabara
When Donna Summer's "Last Dance" collected the Oscar for Best Original Song, its victory marked a turning point for the Academy Awards. Previously, voters gave preference to ballads from motion pictures. In 1978, the win was a nod to the disco genre. it was the dominant musical genre of the time and its mainstream acceptance was finally being recognized. Although the box office hit 'Grease' was also a contender in this category, only the ballad "Hopelessly Devoted To You" was nominated. The more upbeat "You're The One That I Want" and the title song were both ignored. Even more curious was that no songs from 'Saturday Night Fever' were nominated, despite it outselling any previous soundtrack album. Nevertheless, Summer's triumph was an attempt by the Academy to reflect contemporary musical tastes. The category was opened even further in 1980 when "Fame" won and was nominated against other pop hits.
"Last Dance" was performed by Donna Summer in the forgettable film 'Thank God It's Friday'. She portrayed an aspiring singer. Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, regular collaborators with Summer, produced the track. In the US, the single reached #1 Disco, 3 Pop and 5 R&B. The disc made the Top 10 in Canada, New Zealand and the Netherlands.

#1820 NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN Fleetwood Mac
"Never Going Back Again" is an understated cut from Fleetwood Mac's 1977 classic album 'Rumours'. Nestled among so many standout tracks, it is easy to miss its "less is more" appeal. Written by group member Lindsey Buckingham, the song features beautiful harmonies.

#55 EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE
THE POLICE
(1983)
Writer: Sting
The precision and simplicity in the musicianship powers the often confused Police song "Every Breath You Take". It has been mistaken for a love song about total devotion. But Sting's deliberate lyrics are much more than that. It's a song about an obsessed protagonist who is keeping the object of his affection under surveillance. No doubt, the stalker is convinced this is an expression of love, but it is more sinister than that from the victim's perspective.
"Every Breath..." was included on the group's 'Synchronicity' album, also issued in 1983. Hugh Padgham co-produced ithe track with the trio. The single was a global smash; topping the charts in Britain, America, Canada, Ireland and South Africa. In Europe, Australia and New Zealand, the disc reached the Top 10. The song also collected the 1983 Song of the Year Grammy.
'Synchronicity' was to be the final studio album released by The Police. While on tour supporting the LP, tensions between the 3 became untenable and the members announced the group was going on a sabbatical. As the years apart sped by, there were rumours of a re-union; but, apart from one-off performances, the members focused their musical activities to individual pursuits. Of these, Sting's solo career proved by far the most lucrative.
Finally, in 2007, The Police announced a world tour. Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers managed to put aside their differences and wowed audience members; some that weren't even born when the group had last toured the globe together.
