LISTEN WITHOUT PREJUDICE VOL. 1:
GEORGE MICHAEL
[1990]
After the popularity of his debut solo album 'Faith', George Michael changed musical direction in an effort to attain critical respect. On 'Listen Without Prejudice Vol.1', we are greeted by a serious artist. The subject matter is darker, raw and more vulnerable. The former Wham! pop idol carries this off. The influence of early Elton John and Stevie Wonder is apparent, but Michael manages to create his own niché among those legends. He even covers the latter's soulful "They Won't Go When I Go". The album opens with the stunning "Praying For Time". The mood shifts radically with "Freedom". Michael maintains the versatility on subsequent tracks. Vocally, he is confident. Lyrically, he offers touching songs, most notably on the underrated "Mother's Pride".
Highiight tracks: Mother's Pride; Praying For Time; Cowboys And Angels & Heal The Pain.
