UNFORGETTABLE... WITH LOVE:
NATALIE COLE
[1991]
Natalie Cole paid tribute to the standards recorded by her late father, the highly influential Nat 'King' Cole on 'Unforgettable... With Love'. Taking on songs made famous by a legend is no easy task, especially when you are related to him. Natalie Cole bravely came out of her comfort zone after years of recording R&B/ pop songs. Fortunately, the gamble paid off. This became her best selling album to date. It was also rewarded with Grammy Awards. The major track of interest was "Unforgettable", a posthumous duet with her father. Technology made it seem as if they had recorded the ballad simultaneously. This idea has been imitated many times since. Cole shines on many of the gems scattered throughout this album. Her competent jazz treatments introduced a younger audience to these classics and to her father's catalogue.
Highiight tracks: Route 66; Orange Coloured Sky; L-O-V-E & (It's Only A) Paper Moon.
