The idyllic location of Lugano, Switzerland was the location of the very first Euroviaion Song Contest in 1956. While the integrity of the results can rightly be questioned, the host nation finished victorious that evening with the song "Refrain", performed by Lys Assia.
Switzerland has competed 56 times since the inaugural ESC, with only 1 further win when French Canadian Celine Dion represented the nation in 1988.
In 2016, the Swiss entry did not qualify for the Grand Final.
