EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2019
THE HISTORY & STATISTICS
Eurovision has seen 66 songs claim the
top prize. The statistics reveal that a woman has the strongest chance of
winning. Female soloists have accomplished no less than 39 victories. Even in
1969, when 4 songs tied for first place, all 4 were performed by solo women!
It should be noted that in the years
1956-1970, no groups were permitted to compete. The introduction of groups
(maximum 6 performers) in 1971 saw ABBA become the first band to win the ESC. The
most recent group to win was Lordi with “Hard Rock Hallelujah” in 2006.
Solo performers have won every year
since 2012. In the previous year, a male / female duo snatched victory for
Azerbaijan with “Running Scared”.
