These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.

All The Man That I Need

In 1991, Whitney Houston reached #1 on the US Pop, R&B and Adult Contemporary charts with the ballad "All The Man That I Need". While this became the first hit version of the song, her interpretation was not the first to be issued as a single.

In 1982, Sister Sledge released a version of "All The Man That I Need". While the disc failed to crack the Top 40, the siblings' take did reach #45 on the American Soul Chart. Their version was also included on the album 'The Sisters'.
