These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.

And When I Die

Blood, Sweat & Tears scored a #2 smash on the American Hot 100 in 1969 with a jazz / pop interpretation of "And When I Die".  In Canada, the single reached the top.

The song was penned by Laura Nyro. She recorded her own version of the composition on her 1967 debut album 'More Than A New Discovery'.

By this time, American folk trio Peter, Paul & Mary had already released its own version. This appeared on the group's 1966 LP 'The Peter, Paul And Mary Album'.
