The
woman singing the song describes the two men in her life. She loves both of
them. The first man treats her well. On the other hand, the second one mistreats her. As the song nears its end, it is revealed that the
protagonist is referring to two sides of the same man. She explains he has a
split personality, but that she loves both sides.
The
protagonist is wondering where his former partner is. He has no idea if she is
happy in her new relationship and if her current lover is kind and faithful to
her. Initially, he regrets being the last to know she was unhappy when they were a couple. Later in the song, he
reveals that unbeknowns to her, he
cheated on her too.
The
woman is paranoid, fearing that her husband has lost interest in her.
She decides to test him. Taking on the alias of “Babooshka”, she writes him
letters pretending to be younger. When her husband reads the letters, they
remind him of what his spouse was like in her younger years. Up to that point,
he was content in his marriage. The letters spark new thoughts. In the end, the
wife’s paranoia destroys the marriage.
