THE 200 GREATEST SONGS
In 1980, TV audiences tuned in for the answer to the
question who shot J.R. on “Dallas”; Moscow hosted the Summer Olympic Games
which were boycotted by many nations; war broke out between Iran and Iraq;
Ronald Reagan was elected President of the United States and the world mourned
after John Lennon was assassinated outside his Dakota apartment in New York
City.

ABBA's 2 couples were splintering. Bjorn Ulvaeus
and Agnetha Faltskog’s marriage was over. Frida Lyngstad and Benny Andersson’s
relationship would soon end too. The group itself would cease to exist in 2
years, without an official declaration. Faltskog’s vocal performance on this ballad is one
of the most heartfelt and dramatic ever executed. Even detractors of the
group’s upbeat Euro-pop sound could not deny this song’s quality. The
single topped the UK chart and reached #8 in the U.S.A. It was also a major
hit in Australia, Europe, Canada and South Africa.
