Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry co-wrote "Da Doo Ron Ron". The title was a nonsensical line that was used with the intention of finding the right lyrics at a later stage in the song's creation. In exchange for his extensive work in the studio producing the track, Spector received a songwriting credit. There is still disagreement as to whether the lead vocal on this girl group classic was performed by Darlene Love or La La Brooks. Once issued in 1963, the single reached the Top 5 on both sides of the Atlantic.
