HONOURABLE MENTION
CHRISTMAS
(BABY, PLEASE COME HOME)
Darlene Love
As a Christmas song, its airplay is limited to the Yuletide season. Darlene Love’s vocal performance on “Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home)” seems to never age. Slated for release in 1963, the disc seemed destined for the lofty heights of the pop charts. Then a national tragedy occurred: President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. The single was pulled from the shelves. It re-emerged years later and has since earned an annual place among seasonal staples.
