K.D. Lang established her vocal credentials with country albums. ‘Shadowland’ included the album track “I’m Down To My Last Cigarette”. The original version, by Billy walker, was released in 1964.

Lionel Richie & Kenny Rogers 2012
Lionel Richie wrote and produced Kenny Rogers’ US #1 “Lady”. Released in 1980, the solo version by Rogers was his first Pop #1, spending 6 weeks at the top. It was his 10th Country Chart number one and his second to reach the summit on the Easy Listening list. Richie revisited his songbook for the 2012 album ‘Tuskegee’. The project consisted of collaborations with country artists. One of its highlights was Richie’s duet with Rogers on the hit song “Lady”.

Country legend Willie Nelson recorded an album of pop standards, including Irving Berlin’s “Blue Skies”, on ‘Stardust’. The LP reached #1 on the Country Albums charts in both America and Canada.

Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt & Emmylou Harris 1981
The first official collaboration involving Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris was the ‘Trio’ album. This concept was starting to shape up in 1978, when the three women joined forces to remake The Chordettes’ 1954 Pop #1. “Mr. Sandman” was eventually included on Harris’ 1981 album ‘Evangeline’. It now forms part of the ‘Complete Trio Collection’ by Parton, Ronstadt and Harris.

At the time of this release, the group was known as Lady Antebellum. “Need You Now” was showered with awards, especially from the country music community. It collected 2 Grammy Awards in Country categories as well as winning Record and Song of the Year trophies. The single spent 5 weeks at the top of Billboard’s Country Chart.

Dolly Parton 1974
The first version of “I Will Always Love You” was released by Dolly Parton in 1974. That recording topped the US Country Chart and was included on her ‘Jolene’ album. Next, the song was re-recorded for a film. Parton cut a new version for the 1982 motion picture ‘The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas’ in which she co-starred with Burt Reynolds. Another film project would eclipse her version in 1992 when Whitney Houston covered the song for ‘The Bodyguard’ movie.
