As the world’s elite athletes compete at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, CaffΓ¨ LattΓ¨ will focus on the best music that emerged during each Olympiad. Each period considers songs from the years prior to the new Games.
MUSIC ACROSS THE OLYMPIADS
When Rome hosted in 1960, the first Paralympic events were held. Four years later, Tokyo played host city. It had originally been planned to hold the Games in 1940. This was the first time the Olympics were held in Asia.
The 1960s saw rock music expand in varied musical directions. British acts would soon dominate the charts around the world thanks to the emergence of groups such as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Other trends included the girl groups, Motown and soul music. Albums gained prominence with Frank Sinatra popularizing the concept LP.
