MUSIC ACROSS THE OLYMPIADS
Numerous countries dropped their boycotts in time for the 1988 Olympics held in Seoul, South Korea. This was the second time the Games were held in Asia. It was also the final participation of the Soviet Union and East Germany as the Cold War had ended in time for the 1992 Olympics held in Barcelona, Spain.
In the 1980s and early 1990s, chart champions included Madonna, Whitney Houston, U2 and Boyz II Men. Nirvana ushered in the grunge era.
