MUSIC ACROSS THE OLYMPIADS. Today: 1980-84. Continues tomorrow.
As the world’s elite athletes compete at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Caffè Lattè will focus on the best music that emerged during each Olympiad. Each period considers songs from the years prior to the new Games.
MUSIC ACROSS THE OLYMPIADS
Numerous countries, including the U.S.A. boycotted the Moscow Olympics in 1980 because of Russia’s invasion of Afghanistan. Four years later, the Soviet Union and other Eastern bloc countries boycotted the 1984 Los Angeles Games.
This was the time of massive sales for disco music, led by the ‘Saturday Night Fever’ movie soundtrack. Later, Michael Jackson would break records with his ‘Thriller’ album.
