MUSIC ACROSS THE OLYMPIADS. Today: 1968-76. Continues tomorrow.
As the world’s elite athletes compete at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, CaffΓ¨ LattΓ¨ will focus on the best music that emerged during each Olympiad. Each period considers songs from the years prior to the new Games.
MUSIC ACROSS THE OLYMPIADS
The Olympics were held for the first time in Latin America when Mexico City played host city in 1968. Four years later, the Games returned to Germany. The Munich Olympics will always be remembered for the tragedy which saw Israeli athletes and coaches massacred. In 1976, Montreal, Canada hosted the Games.
Musical trends that dominated at this time included the singer-songwriter era, adult contemporary and disco tracks. As The Beatles split, among the chart leaders were Stevie Wonder, Elton John, ABBA and Queen.
