DISCO
#1 SINGLES
ON THE
UK / US CHARTS
Disco was a major musical genre that generated unprecedented massive sales and chart feats. It was the dominant musical style in the late 1970s. There was a backlash later and by 1983, disco hits were rarer but there was an ever-present appetite for dance music. In the 1980s and beyond. New trends such as techno and house kept the energy of disco alive.
This list covers all the chart-topping dancefloor favourites, including the proto-disco and post-disco songs that kept the mirror balls spinning and discotheques packed. The 100 songs are listed in chronological order of when they reached the top in America and / or Britain.
* There is often minimal difference in what is or is not a disco track. For the purposes of this list, the broadest definition has been applied.
