-The girl groups emerge, thanks largely to the genius of Phil Spector.
-The Beatles' TV debut.
-Original member of The Beatles, Stuart Sutcliffe dies.
-Ray Charles fuses soul with country & western music.
-The Beatles begin working with producer George Martin.
-Ringo Starr joins The Beatles, replacing Pete Best.
-John Lennon marries Cynthia Powell.
-The Beatles issue first single "Love Me Do".
-Little Stevie Wonder begins recording for Motown.
-James Brown is recorded in concert for his 'Live at the Apollo' album.
In 1962, rock 'n roll threw up new music acts, each with its own take on the genre. Island Records emerges with its first releases. The Motown label starts achieving hit singles. As a satellite named Telstar made its first transatlantic TV transmission, The Tornadoes scored an instrumental #1 named in its honour. The Four Seasons storm the charts with "Sherry". Rock enjoyed 1 of its earliest novelty hits: "Monster Mash" (which is swiftly banned by the BBC!). Folk made stars out of the trio Peter, Paul & Mary.
