SONGBIRD: BARBRA STREISAND
 Uploadsongbird.jpg
 [1978]
'Songbird' finds Barbra Streisand at the height of her 1970s popularity. She had already tackled songs from an array of songwriters including Laura Nyro, John Lennon and Carole King. The title track is a splendid ballad. The most interesting song here is Streisand's solo reading of "You Don't Bring Me Flowers"; its inclusion here inspired the new version cut as a duet with Neil Diamond. On this album, Streisand also recorded songs from (then) relative unknowns such as Kim Carnes and Bruce Roberts. 'Songbird' also features "Tomorrow", from the musical "Annie". There are attempts to break new ground for Streisand ("Love Breakdown" and "One More Night") but there are some missteps ("Honey Can I Put On Your Clothes" and "Deep In The Night"). Highlight tracks: Songbird; You Don't Bring Me Flowers & I Don't Break Easily.
