ARE YOU GONNA GO MY WAY:
LENNY KRAVITZ
[1993]
Lenny Kravitz draws from a variety of sources in his music. There's elements of Jimi Hendrix and psychedelia / heavy rock (the title track and "My Love"); John Lennon's introspective rock ("Is There Any Love In Your Heart" and "Believe") and the funk/ rock of Prince ("Sugar" and "Sister"). Those ingredients have been essential influences in Kravitz's music before, but on 'Believe', he explores a more soulful direction. This is most evident on "Black Girl", "Heaven Help" and "Just Be A Woman". All these influences mesh better than on any Kravitz album before or since. It's an effective make out album too. Highlight tracks: Are You Gonna Go My Way; Believe & Black Girl.
