ROBERT STIGWOOD
The Bee Gees, Eric Clapton, John Travolta & ‘Saturday Night
Fever’ might not have been as successful had it not been for the influence of
manager / producer Robert Stigwood.
The Australian-born musical figure was behind the careers of The
Bee Gees, Cream, the film versions of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ and The Who’s
‘Tommy’. Stigwood set up RSO Records, signing up Clapton & the Bee Gees.
The latter created the then best selling soundtrack album in ‘Saturday Night
Fever’ for RSO and a box office hit movie produced by Stigwood. His next project was
another film starring Travolta, ‘Grease’. The musical raised Olivia
Newton-John’s profile and became another box office giant. He was later
involved in the screen adaptation of ‘Evita’ starring Madonna.
Stigwood passed away on January 4, aged 81.
