MY
CHERIE AMOUR
Stevie Wonder
Stevie Wonder first attempted to write this song in 1967,
while still at Michigan’s School for the Blind. The song was originally about
his then girlfriend Marcia. When the time to record the song finally came, the
girl was no longer the object of Wonder’s affection, so “Oh My Marcia” became “My
Cherie Amour”. The song was the flip side for “I Don’t Know Why (I Love You)”
but disc jockeys preferred “My Cherie Amour”. Motown re-issued the disc this
time with the latter as the A-side. The single peaked at #4 on both sides of
the Atlantic.
