BENNY BENJAMIN

A tiny label in Detroit, Michigan emerged in the 1960s as one of the major influences on popular music. Motown’s house band was named The Funk Brothers. Two members in particular are often credited for the creation of that legendary “Motown Sound”: bass player James Jamerson and drummer Benny Benjamin. Nick-named “Papa Zita”, the latter left his magic on Motown classics such as: “Money (That’s What I Want)”, “My Girl”, “Do You Love Me”, “Uptight (Everything’s Alright)” and the Gladys Knight & The Pips’ version of “I Heard It Through The Grapevine”.
