HE’S SO FINE
The Chiffons
1963
U.K. - #16; U.S.A. - #1
Trivia:
Ronnie Mack penned "He's So Fine" and asked a group of unknowns to sing on demos of his compositions. The girls were still in school at the time. Mack peddled his demos to various labels. Finally, his efforts paid off when the members of The Tokens (who had scored a hit with "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" in late 1961) played on the recording cut by the girl group The Chiffons. The Tokens also produced the hit. Soon after the disc made #1 in America, The Tokens presented Mack with a gold record for "He's So Fine". The songwriter was in hospital with Hodgkins' Disease and sadly died not long after. Mack's estate was the beneficiary of the lawsuit related to George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord".
