GOODNIGHT SAIGON

Billy addressed the neglect shown to Vietnam War veterans in “Goodnight Saigon”. The track on ‘The Nylon Curtain’ is an anomaly for the singer/ songwriter. Its lyrics put listeners in the middle of the horrors and sacrifice these soldiers endured. Sadly, their bravery and service were barely recognized. The sound of a helicopter starts the track. Billy describes how little things like soap or music helped the vets deal with homesickness. The line “we would all go down together” exemplifies the bond between these poor souls.
