JIVE TALKIN’
The Bee Gees
1975
U.K. - #5; U.S.A. - #1
Trivia:
The Bee Gees were in a rut in the early 1970s. Musically, the group was repeating itself with ballads that were increasingly greeted with less enthusiasm. Arif Mardin took over as producer and suggested the Gibb brothers head to Miami, Florida to seek inspiration from a new location. The Bee Gees soaked up the sounds in discotheques and on radio stations. Driving to Criteria Studios in Miami, the siblings' car would drive across the Sunny Isles Bridge. Linda, wife of Barry Gibb, pointed out the sound the vehicle's tyres made. This inspired the intro for "Jive Talkin'". The song was first included on the group's 'Main Course' LP and later wound up on the 'Saturday Night Fever' soundtrack album.
