EUROVISION 2024
THE 37 SONGS
(in order of preference)
The number of competitors for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest has remained the same with Romania withdrawing and Luxembourg returning after an absence of 31 years. This year, the ESC will be held in host city Malmö, Sweden in May following that country’s seventh win in 2023. Caffè Lattè has ranked all of the 37 entries in terms of sonic quality, as it does annually. The higher the ranking, the better the song.
This year, all of the 37 entries have redeeming qualities. Unusually, there is no major standout, but none of the songs for the 2024 Contest are woeful. Therefore, even the songs at the bottom are not there because of low appeal, but because the ones ranked higher are slightly superior.
*Note that a live performance and the on-stage presentation may alter the overall impact of a song once the Semi-Finals begin.

FIREFIGHTER
Nutsa Buzaladze
Georgia
Nutsa will be one of the last performers in the second Semi-Final. Her entry is catchy and with 37 worthy songs in the 2024 crop, one had to occupy the lowest rank. The Georgian entry will be performed in English.
36
RAMONDA
Teya Dora
Serbia
Betting odds have the Serbian entry among the least likely to emerge victorious. Teya Dora co-wrote the song. It will be sung in Serbian early in Semi-Final One.
35
GRITO
Iolanda
Portugal
Iolanda co-wrote the Portuguese entry. It will be heard towards the end of the first Semi-Final. The song, to be performed in Portuguese, has a title that means “shout”. It is not as strong as Portugal’s entry in 2023.
34
VERONIKA
Raiven
Slovenia
Performing in Slovene, Raiven will represent Slovenia with “Veronika”. She will be singing during Semi-Final 1. This is catchy and the staging may just raise its potential. Raiven co-wrote the song.
33
TITAN
Besa
Albania
Albania will hit the stage second in Semi-Final 2. Besa will be singing “Titan” in English. This is another satisfactory entry, but it lacks enough edge to make it stand out this year.
32
ZARI
Marina Satti
Greece
In a good year, Greece can be relied on for a strong entry. Recently. its entries have lacked quality and this has been reflected in their overall performance during the finals. Last year was a disaster. Credit to Greece for going with something different in 2024, but “Zari” is one of the year’s weakest songs. Satti is of Greek, Arabic and Balkan origin and these cultures are evident in her song (she co-wrote it) with a title that is Greek for “dice”. While I regard this as inferior, it is among the Top 10 in the betting odds.
31
DOOMSDAY BLUE
Bambi Thug
Ireland
2023 saw Sweden equal Ireland’s record for most wins at Eurovision. “Doomsday Blue” is unlikely to bring about an eighth Irish victory. Initially, I was repelled by this song, but it has since grown on me. It is going to be divisive and its success or failure will depend entirely on how the public greets it during Semi-Final One. It is unique and risky, but that often makes for an unforgettable Eurovision memory.
