EUROVISION 2024
THE 37 SONGS
(in order of preference)
The number of competitors for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest has remained the same with Romania withdrawing and Luxembourg returning after an absence of 31 years. This year, the ESC will be held in host city Malmö, Sweden in May following that country’s seventh win in 2023. Caffè Lattè has ranked all of the 37 entries in terms of sonic quality, as it does annually. The higher the ranking, the better the song.
This year, all of the 37 entries have redeeming qualities. Unusually, there is no major standout, but none of the songs for the 2024 Contest are woeful. Therefore, even the songs at the bottom are not there because of low appeal, but because the ones ranked higher are slightly superior.
*Note that a live performance and the on-stage presentation may alter the overall impact of a song once the Semi-Finals begin.

ONE MIKALI (ONE BLOOD)
Electric Fields
Australia
Australia’s extended participation at Eurovision officially ended in 2023, but the country has been invited back. It will be represented by the first ESC entry to feature aboriginal lyrics (as well as the bulk of lyrics in English). Electric Fields’ song is weak. It will most likely struggle to progress from Semi-Final 1, especially as this heat is decided only by public voting.

Megara
San Marino
Megara finished fourth in last year’s Spanish selections. This year, the group is back and succeeded in gaining the opportunity to represent San Marino with a song to be performed in Spanish. This will also face difficulty at the semi-final stage.

ULVEHAM
Gåte
Norway
Norway takes Eurovision seriously, often selecting strong entries. This year, it has opted for a song performed in Norwegian. The style is different and a gamble, but it may pay off with the tele-voters watching Semi-Final 2.
27
IN THE MIDDLE
Natalia Barbu
Moldova
Natalia Barbu returns to represent Moldova again. She first performed in 2007 and finished in 10th position. Barbu penned “In The Middle” herself. She will have to work hard in order to qualify for her second Grand Final appearance.

ALWAYS ON THE RUN
Isaak
Germany
ISAAK co-wrote the German entry. It is competent and he possesses a strong vocal ability, but the song sounds like many other recent Eurovision songs. As one of the “Big 5” countries, “Always On The Run” has already secured its place in the Grand Final. Germany struggles with the public voting and this year shows little chance of changing the trend.
