TOP 1500 CHOICE TRACKS {EXPANDED EDITION}
#1251 SUMMERTIME Billy Stewart
Adapting the song from "Porgy and Bess", Billy Stewart's remake was distinctive from past interpretations. Credited to George & Ira Gershwin and DuBose Heyward, Stewart's cover was a hit in 1966 on Chess Records. "Motormouth" (Stewart) died in a car accident in 1970, aged 32.
#1252 HEADLINES Alcazar
Alcazar entered "Headlines" in Melodifestivalen hoping to represent Sweden at Eurovision in 2010. The song, written by Peter Bostrom and Tony Nilsson, missed out, but is a great example of Swedish pop.
#1253 LA VIE EN ROSE {Chris Cox Remix} Donna Summer
An Edith Piaf tribute album was compiled in 1993 which included -among others- Pat Benatar, Emmylou Harris and Leon Russell covering a song by the legendary French chanteuse. Donna Summer covered the anthemic "La Vie En Rose". A later U.S. single release featured a Chris Cox remix which was an even more exciting take on the song written by "The Little Sparrow" with Louigny and Mack David. The latter is the brother of Hal David, lyricist for many of the classics co-written with Burt Bacharach.
#1254 A FIFTH OF BEETHOVEN Walter Murphy & The Big Apple Band
Beethoven's "Fifth Symphony" was given a disco make-over in 1976 and wound up on the 'Saturday Night Fever' soundtrack. Walter Murphy applied his classical music credentials to create a US #1 record.
#1255 ROCK YOUR BABY George McCrae
George McCrae's "Rock Your Baby" was 1 of the earliest disco #1s, reaching the top of the US charts in 1974. The song was written by Harry Wayne Casey (K.C.) and Peter Finch of K.C & The Sunshine Band.
The list is a ranking made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I
cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks.
Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have
universal appeal.
They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal
choice.This expanded section now includes songs from the last few years. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
5 new songs are added every day from #1201-1500 as well as continuing the ascent through 1 of the remaining songs to #1 daily.
