#286 CAN YOU FEEL IT The Jacksons
The Jacksons' 'Triumph' saw the family group enter the 1980s spectacularly. Pivotal member Michael had just enjoyed hit singles from his 'Off The Wall' album and the siblings followed that up with a music video to promote "Can You Feel It" which raised the bar for the emerging promotional tool. The special effects enhanced the song's message of unity and social cohesion.
The track, which opened the album, was written by Michael with his brother Jackie Jackson. The former shared lead vocals on the hit with his younger brother Randy. The Jacksons produced the cut. Among the background singers was Venetta fields. Greg Phillinganes contributed keyboards and was an associate producer.
Released as a single in 1981, "Can You..." reached #1 in Belgium and South Africa. The disc peaked in the Top 10 in Britain, Australia and the Netherlands. The song re-charted in 2009, following Michael's death. It was sampled in The Tamperer featuring Msaya's hit single "Feel It" in 1998.
This
is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I
cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks.
Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have
universal appeal.
They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal
choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a
better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2
new instalments are added each day (every 12 hours) with 1 of the
remaining 300 songs as well as moving down from #1201 to 1500, with 5 of
those songs added daily.
