CALIFORNIA DREAMIN'. Continues later this week.
BEFORE IT WAS A
HIT SONG…
These songs are well known but you may not know about the
earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.
California Dreamin’
"California Dreamin'" by The Mamas & The Papas remains one of the high points of 1960s pop. Written by group members and married couple John and Michelle Phillips, it was released as a single in 1965.
The song was originally given to Barry McGuire to record. The singer was just coming off the success of his US #1 "Eve Of Destruction". His version of "California Dreamin'" was slated as its follow-up.
When Denny Doherty had a go at singing the song, he and the other 3 Mamas and the Papas cut their own version. The group's recording became the hit.
Each new song will be added to the
spotify playlist named: ‘Before It Was A Hit Song’. You can check out the previous earlier /
original versions of the hit songs you know and love.
