IF NOT FOR YOU Continues next week.
BEFORE IT WAS A
HIT SONG…
These songs are well known but you may not know about the
earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.
If Not For You
Olivia Newton-John launched her international solo career with the 1971 single "If Not For You". It topped the U.S. Easy Listening (Adult Contemporary) Chart. The country-tinged recording also peaked at #7 in the UK and Australia. It charted in America, Europe, Canada and New Zealand.
George Harrison included his interpretation of "If Not For You" on his debut solo album 'All Things Must Pass'. The double LP was issued in 1970, following the split of The Beatles that same year.
The original version of the song was recorded by Bob Dylan. He wrote the song for his 1970 album 'New Morning'. In Europe, the track was issued as a single.
Each new song will be added to the
spotify playlist named: ‘Before It Was A Hit Song’. You can check out the previous earlier /
