These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.

Iko Iko

 

The Belle Stars charted during the 1980s with "Iko Iko". In 1982, the single climbed to #35. Seven years later, it peaked at #14 on the US Hot 100 for the all-female British group.

Another female act scored the first hit version of the song. In 1965, New Orleans trio The Dixie Cups' rendition reached #20 in America and #23 in the UK.
