Caffè Lattè presents:
-THE IOO MOST ESSENTIAL SONGS OF-
SIMON & GARFUNKEL
Together or apart, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel have released one of the most significant canons of songs. Their partnership has weathered time, despite periods of estrangement. This countdown looks back on 100 of their best recordings- as a duo or as soloists.
Here’s to you, Simon & Garfunkel…
100
HEY SCHOOLGIRL
Tom & Jerry
Before they formed the duo Simon & Garfunkel, Paul and Art scored a US chart entry with “Hey Schoolgirl”. It cost $25 to record. The 2 teens adopted the pseudonyms Tom Graph and Jerry Landis. In 1957, the disc peaked at #49 on Billboard’s Hot 100. This led to an appearance on Dick Clark’s “American Bandstand”. The follow-up singles failed to build on the success of “Hey Schoolgirl”. When their label Big Records folded, the duo split. Paul and Art concentrated on academia while still dabbling in music. Fortunately, the pair would re-unite years later.
99
SLOW BREAKUP
Art Garfunkel
A track on Garfunkel’s 1988 album ‘Lefty’. Curiously, this LP failed to chart in either America or the UK.

PEACE LIKE A RIVER
Paul Simon
After the critical and commercial success of the duo’s ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’, Simon & Garfunkel parted ways. Following up such a highly lauded album was no mean feat. To add more pressure to the situation, Simon was now solo. His self-titled LP was finally unleashed in 1972. “Peace Like A River” was one of its 11 tracks.
97
WATERMARK
Art Garfunkel
The title track on Garfunkel’s 1978 album ‘Watermark”, consisting mostly of Jimmy Webb compositions such as this song.
96
A SIMPLE DESULTORY PHILIPPIC
Simon & Garfunkel
Initially recorded for the British release ‘The Paul Simon Song Book’ in 1965, the song surfaced on the duo’s ‘Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme’ the following year. Penned by Simon, he channels Bob Dylan on the track.
95
SOMEONE ELSE
Art Garfunkel
Art Garfunkel produced the ‘Watermark’ album himself. “Someone Else” was included on the record.
94
SINCE I DON’T HAVE YOU
Art Garfunkel
‘Fate For Breakfast’ was issued in 1979. “Since I Don’t Have You” is a cover of a 1958 hit for The Skyliners.
93
SILENT EYES
Paul Simon
The closing track on ‘Still Crazy After All These Years’, “Silent Eyes” has a gospel feel.
92
IF I LOVED YOU
Art Garfunkel
Art Garfunkel’s most recent solo album was 2007’s ‘Some Enchanted Evening’. Richard Perry produced the release. “If I Loved You” is from the 1945 Rodgers & Hammerstein musical “Carousel”.

Paul Simon
Paul Simon entered a new decade of singing/ songwriting with ‘You’re The One’, a self-produced album that came out in 2000, which included the song “Love”.
