Simon & Garfunkel released its first studio album in 1966. “Wednesday Morning, 3AM” was its title track. The LP's lack of success led to the dissolution of the duo. Fortunately, Simon and Garfunkel would re-group in 1966.

A chance listening to a tape of African music inspired the ‘Graceland’ project. Simon was drawn to “Gumboots”, an instrumental by The Boyoyo Boys. He initially planned to buy the rights to the song, which evolved into an album recorded in South Africa.

GONE AT LAST
Paul Simon
Simon had previously cut “Gone At Last” as a duet with Bette Midler. He re-recorded it with Phoebe Snow and The Jessy Dixon Singers for ‘Still Crazy After All These Years’.
