Elton, Bernie Tapin and band members moved into the 300 year old Château d’Hierouville in France to record a new studio album, the first not cut in London. The musicians included the core: Davey Johnstone, Nigel Olsson and Dee Murray. Recording sessions produced 2 hit singles: “Honky Cat” and “Rocket Man”. This was Elton’s first of 7 consecutive albums to reach #1 in America.

The second song heard on the disc features Jean-Luc Ponty on electric violin.
16 Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters
Bernie Taupin’s feelings about New York City are unravelled on this track which features only Elton on piano, Dee on bass and Davey on mandolins and guitar.
