HOT FUN IN THE SUMMERTIME
Sly & The Family Stone
1969
U.S.A. - #2
Trivia:
"Hot Fun In The Summertime" contains a dig at Motown and The Temptations specifically. Sly Stone, who wrote the hit, felt that the label often borrowed from his group, hence the line "I cloud nine when I want to" (a reference to the Temptations' hit "Cloud Nine"). Ironically, the single was shut out of the #1 position by "I Can't Get Next To You", a chart-topping disc from The Temptations!
