By the time "Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress)" was issued as a single, Tony Hicks was the sole remaining original member of The Hollies. The single did feature another founding part of the band's line-up: Allan Clarke. He had quit The Hollies the previous year after recording the track's parent album 'Distant Light'.
