Smokey Robinson wrote this early Motown recording by The Jackson 5. It was impressive evidence of the act’s potential and lead singer Michael’s vocal talent. The brothers’ take was used as the B-side for the group’s first hit single “I Want You Back”.

THE GIRL IS MINE

Michael Jackson & Paul McCartney

Michael had previously recorded a song by Paul McCartney on ‘Off The Wall’ (“Girlfriend”). “The Girl Is Mine” was the lead single for the former’s record-breaking LP ‘Thriller’. Michael wrote the song. In America, the disc reached #1 on the Soul and Adult Contemporary charts. It peaked at #2 Pop. Elsewhere, the single was a Top 10 hit in Britain, Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Young Michael’s third solo album was ‘Music & Me’. Its title track was a single written by Jerry Marcellino, Mel Larson, Don Fenceton and Mike Cannon. The former 2two also produced the recording.

Janet Jackson

Before she became a major pop star, Janet made her mark as an actress. “Again” was featured during the closing credits of the film ‘Poetic Justice’, in which she starred with Tupac Shakur. The single went to the top in the U.S.A.

Michael Jackson

Michael’s solo debut album was entitled ‘Got To Be There’. The title track was his first solo single. Hal Davis produced the recording which made the Top 5 in America, the UK and Canada in 1971.
