The title track on Janet’s third studio album was its fourth single. This song summed up what was on the performer’s mind. She was exerting control. Janet moved out, severed professional ties with her father Joe Jackson and made music her new focus. She co-wrote the song with producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. The former took care of programming drums and synthesizer, digital sampling and percussion on the track. Lewis played percussion on the recording. Janet handled lead and background vocals as well as playing keyboards. ”Control” reached US #5 Pop and topped both the R&B and Dance charts.
