After scoring a worldwide hit with "Flashdance... What Feeling", the same team created "Why Me?" for Irene Cara's follow-up single. Once again, the singer co-wrote the lyrics with Keith Forsey and Giorgio Moroder composed the music. The latter also produced the track. In various European countries and in Australia, the song was a Top 10 smash.
