2022 was a year of controversy associated with FIFA’s World Cup held in Qatar (won by Argentina); Russia illegally invaded the Ukraine; China imposed severe restrictions on its COVID-affected citizens and disasters impacted on numerous countries with landslides, floods, heatwaves and fires. We mourned the loss of icons such as Olivia Newton-John, Jerry Lee Lewis, Mikhail Gorbachev, Sidney Poitier, Angela Lansbury, Meat Loaf, Ronnie (Bennett) Spector, William Hurt, Christine McVie, James Caan, Irene Cara, Shane Warne, Loretta Lynn, Jean-Luc Godard, Shinzo Abe, Taylor Hawkins and Elizabeth II. The UK had 3 Prime Ministers. Economies around the world started heading towards a likely recession. 

Music offered us solace and hope in the midst of all these tragedies and struggles. Here are the musical highlights of the year according to Caffè Lattè:

A collaboration bringing together 2 synth-pop duos from the 1980s.

Isak Danielson co-wrote this powerful ballad with Peter Kvint who also produced the track.

The enigmatic singer included this country/ rock flavoured track on his 2022 album release ‘Bronco’.

A track on ‘Voyage’ which was the #1 album on the 2021 Year End Chart.

IS IT ALRIGHT FOR YOU – Isak Danielson

The Swedish singer / songwriter’s 2022 album ‘King Of A Tragedy’ was mostly inspired by his first significant relationship.

NO DOUBT ABOUT IT – ABBA

Three decades later, the Swedish group proved it could recapture the magic of its past and create cleverly crafted new music, such as this upbeat track.

GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT –

Isak Danielson

On this song, Danielson contemplates whether success will bring him happiness. It is one of the songs he dropped during 2022 that demonstrated his personal growth as a songwriter.

ODE TO FREEDOM – ABBA

Arguably the highlight of the new ‘Voyage’ album, this song finds the four Swedes reflecting their maturity and experience. In light of the struggles still raging around the globe, it is a fitting track for that precious yet fragile state.
