CHAIN REACTION Diana Ross

The Bee Gees took on a new project in the mid-1980s: an album for Diana Ross. They had completed all of the planned tracks but Ross felt that the LP needed one more song. The trio had a song already in the bag, but decided not to present it to her as it sounded too reminiscent of her recordings as a member of The Supremes on Motown. By 1985, Ross had severed ties with her old label.

The brothers finally changed their mind and offered that song -“Chain Reaction”- to Ross. She listened to the track and felt that it was a worthy tribute to her legacy. Ross recorded the track which would be the album's second single.

The song was written by Barry, Robin and Maurice. The former co-produced the track with Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardson. While the single barely dented the US chart, “Chain Reaction” reached #1 in the UK and Australia. It made the Top 10 on the European Chart. The song would be covered in 2001 by British group Steps. This remake peaked at #2 in Britain.
