 THE 100 ESSENTIAL SONGS BY

DONNA SUMMER

We focus on Donna Summer’s most essential recordings...

1 I FEEL LOVE

As timeless as “I Feel Love” has proven to be, we need to be mindful that Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte were still exploring the possibilities of the synthesizer when creating the revolutionary track.

The song was created for the ‘I Remember Yesterday’ album. That project saw Donna in a variety of musical contexts. Various genres were used. For the closing track, Moroder and Bellotte tried to envisage what music would sound like in the future. Donna added some lyrics to the concept that evolved into the groundbreaking “I Feel Love”.

In 1977, the single topped the UK, European and Australian charts. In the US, the disc peaked at #6. Among the many musicians and commentators that were blown away by the track was Brian Eno. He famously predicted to David Bowie that this was a preview of the future. His prediction proved to be correct, as “I Feel Love” helped influence almost every dance music trend that followed.
