MY BABY JUST CARES FOR ME
Nina Simone
The song “My Baby Just Cares For Me” dates back to 1930, but no one has delivered it quite the way Nina Simone did in 1957. There is no doubting her ability to switch genres, but her rendition benefits greatly from her jazz credentials. Simone sings it with an endearing quality that is a far cry from the force of her civil rights anthems.
Fortunately, the irresistible recording was saved from obscurity when it was used in a British TV ad for a Chanel perfume. As a result, the disc was re-issued in 1987 and this time, reached #5 in the UK.
