UNORTHODOX JUKEBOX:
BRUNO MARS
[2012]
Following up an impressive debut album is
often no easy task. Those that get it right demonstrate a progression in
musicianship or songcraft. While Bruno Mars falls short here overall on this
sophomore release, there are delicious exceptions. The charm displayed on
"Marry You" and "Just The Way You Are" from his debut
offering is present on "When I Was Your Man". To his credit, Mars is
clearly trying on new approaches to his music on this album. Some tracks fall
short: (eg. "Gorilla") while others are fun (case in point:
"Treasure"). Highlight
tracks: When I Was Your Man; Locked Out Of Heaven & Moonshine.
