pop nugget became the trio’s eighth single to reach #1 in America. It also topped Billboard’s Soul Chart. In the UK, the disc peaked at #8. The song has
proved to be so enduring that it was a Top 10 remake in 1967 for Vanilla Fudge
and returned to #1 when covered by Kim Wilde in 1986.

Rap in its early incarnations was very male
dominated and frequently had misogynistic themes. The arrival of Salt -N- Pepa
brought about a shift in attitude. This 1991 single dealt with the safe sex
message while HIV/ A.I.D.S. was a global health crisis. It topped the Australian
chart and peaked at #2 in Europe and Britain. The single reached #13 in
America.
