THE EUROVISION SONG CONTEST: The 40 Songs Ranked. THE TOP 3.
EUROVISION 2022
THE 40 SONGS
(in order of preference)
The number of competitors for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest has decreased to 40 with the banning of Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine. This year, the 2022 ESC will be held in host city Turin, Italy in May. Caffè Lattè has ranked all of the entries in terms of sonic quality, as it does annually. The higher the ranking, the better the song.
*Note that a live performance and the on-stage presentation may alter the overall impact of a song.
#3
FULENN
Alvan & Ahez
France
As one of the “Big 5” countries, France already has secured a place in the Grand Final. This year’s entry’s title means “spark”. Alvan is a multi-instrumentalist and will collaborate with the vocal trio Ahez. The song will be performed in Breton. Both acts are originally from Brittany. Its sound can be described as Celtic electronica.
This is a worthy song that deserves to attract votes. It mixes tradition with modern beats. It is very different from the usual French entry, and is particularly in stark contrast to last year’s “Voilà”, which finished in second place.
#2
HOLD ME CLOSER
Cornelia Jakobs
Sweden
This entry has been one of the Top 3 betting favourites for months. Its selection at Melodifestivalen proved very popular. Sweden will be competing in Semi-Final 2. The powerful song will be sung in English. Despite other strong competitors, Sweden should progress to the Grand Final with ease.
#1
BRIVIDI
Mahmood & Blanco
Italy
According to Eurovision betting, if Ukraine does not triumph, Italy will secure back-to-back victories. As a result of its win in 2021 and with Italy being one of the “Big 5” countries, the Italian entry has pre-qualified for the Grand Final.
This song will be performed in Italian by 2 of Italy’s hottest musical acts. Mahmood represented Italy at Eurovision in 2019 and finished as the runner-up. Rapper / singer BLANCO will join him on the song which has already won the prestigious Sanremo Song Festival.
Italy often is represented at Eurovision by quality songs. “Brividi” translates as “shivers”. This is easily the best song competing in the 2022 Contest and deserves to claim first place.
