This year’s Contest will see the 70th song declared a winner. Caffè Lattè lists all of the past winning entries and other songs that have had a lasting impact on the Eurovision Song Contest.
2015
For 2015, the Eurovision Song Contest returned to Austria. Vienna had last been host city back in 1967. To mark the 60th anniversary of the ESC, Australia was invited to participate. The Contest had been very popular there and televised for several years. Ukraine withdrew as a result of conflict. The return of Cyprus, Czech Republic and Serbia increased the number of competitors to 40.
HEROES Måns Zelmerlöw
Sweden
Russia, Italy and Sweden started as favourites. “Heroes” gave Sweden its second win in three years. This victory placed Sweden in second place for most winning entries: 6; just behind Ireland and its record 7 triumphs. Måns Zelmerlöw scored 365 points. The stage presentation was innovative.
A MILLION VOICES
Polina Gagarina
Russia

ballad was met with some loud booing from the live audience, protesting Russia’s
poor human rights record and the conflict with Ukraine. The tide was turning against Russia across the continent.
GRANDE AMORE lI Volo
Italy
Italy was represented by the epic and classy entry “Grande Amore”. Il Volo won the public vote and finished third overall with a total of 292 points.
TONIGHT AGAIN
Guy Sebastian
Australia
The participation of Australia was initially intended to mark Eurovision’s 60th birthday. As a one-off inclusion, Australia was allowed to skip the semi-finals and automatically pre-qualify for the Grand Final. Guy Sebastian represented the country with the catchy “Tonight Again”. He earned 196 points which landed him in fifth place on the scoreboard by the end of the night.
I AM YOURS
The Makemakes
Austria
Until 2015, no host country had ever finished with zero points. After the landmark triumph of “Rise Like A Phoenix”, Austria’s 2015 entry could not manage a single point. Both Germany and Austria finished last with a score of zero at the conclusion of the Grand Final. Surely The Makemakes deserved a better reception!
