IF I HAD A HAMMER
Peter, Paul & Mary
1962
U.S.A. - #10
Trivia:
"If I Had A Hammer" was written by Lee Hays (lyrics) and Pete Seeger (music) in 1949. At this time, the song was so controversial that no company was prepared to publish it. The original version was released by The Weavers, a group which included the somg's 2 writers. Labelled as "Communists", the band was blacklisted. The song finally achieved commercial success when covered by folk trio Peter, Paul & Mary.
